Title: To Days Gone By. by CountlessUntruths (KaliCephirot)
Fandom:
How to train your dragon
Character/Pairing:
Valka,Gobber the Belch

Gobber the Belch/Stoick the Vast,Stoick the Vast/Valka
Word Count: 1066
Warnings:
canon character death
Summary:
"Gobber moves around Stoick and Hiccup's house with an easiness and familiarity Valka envies, as she waits for him to tell her more about the twenty years she wasn't there."

There is a pang that she's getting used to, the bitterness of thinking that she should have been there but, just as she gets it, she lets it go: wishing for things to be different is an useless wish to have, so instead she focuses on the way Gobber seems wistful and melancholic and Valka makes a choice.

Title:lokabrenna by trell (qunlat)

How to train your dragon
Character/Pairing:
Astrid Hofferson, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III,

Ruffnut Thorston, Tuffnut Thorston, Fishlegs Ingerman, Camicazi, Heather,
Word Count: 14141
Summary:
Gen - Future Fic: "lokabrenna — “Loki’s torch; the conflagration of Loki,” referring to the end of the world."
Why I Rec This Fic:
I really love the details of the life on Berk in this, Astrid and Hiccups relationship, and the many important social roles that many female characters hold in this.

He and Astrid, who had refused to break her stride amidst the running, reached each other at last and stopped, perhaps a foot apart: “I’m glad you’re not dead,” Hiccup blurted, automatic.
I’m glad you’re not, either,” said Astrid, deadpan, and held out the ceremonial gift; Hiccup took it, and, without stopping to look inside, threw his arms around in her in a hug.
Astrid hugged him in return, pounding his back in the true eastman tradition of nearly beating the lungs out of your friends as well as eviscerating those of your enemies. They did not share any more intimate gestures; they had never been close enough for that, not even now that they had matching swords at their backs and matching rings on their hands. “You haven’t even seen what we’ve brought you,” she said, when they parted; and Hiccup grinned crookedly and said,
I hope there’s food in the boats, Astrid. You wouldn’t believe how much everyone’s been on our case about this harvest, even though Gothi and Gobber and everyone who knows anything about farming says it’s set to be perfectly good.”
There’s food,” Astrid assured him, and, as the commotion continued around them—families greeting their returning heroes, and others, Hiccup knew with a sickening surety borne of experience, looking frantically for faces they recognized and not finding them—dropped her voice, her expression darkening to match. “Hiccup, it didn’t—I—we lost people.”

Title: Fifteen Kennings For "Woman": A Sequence by nebroadwe
Fandom:
How to train your dragon
Character/Pairing:
Astrid, Astrid/Hiccup

Word Count: 1500 - in 15 drabbles (100 words)
Summary:
"Being a girl on Berk means many things, as Astrid discovers by living through them."
Why I Rec This Fic:
I love it when people bring in stuff they are knowledgeable and passionate about for their fanfiction, and this does, there are footnotes!

Given this associations, the fic use free interpretations to show a fleshed out 3dimensional picture of a female character.
"A kenning is a Norse poetic trope, a circumlocutory compound that describes a person, place or thing. They can be straightforward (like "ring-giver" for "king") or complex, even riddling."

                                                 "The Young Pine of Ribbons"
Phlegma puts Astrid's hair in pigtails for the Midsummer Thing, tying them off with pretty red ribbons.

Title: This is Berk. This is My Home. by billtheradish
Fandom:
How to train your dragon
Character/Pairing:
Astrid

Word Count: 1533
Summary:
"Astrid's life has always been about dragons."
Why I Rec This Fic:
Female characters being awesome! Mother daughter relationship! Too much responsibilty on kid shoulders (sad but something i love to read)

"You do this to me again and I swear I am going to kill you myself."
She shook her head and clenched her hands in her mother's vest. "It needed doing."

Title: One-Two-Three by Jelly
Fandom:
How to train your dragon
Character/Pairing:
Stoick the Vast,Astrid Hofferson,Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III,Valka

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III/Astrid Hofferson, Astrid&Stoick, Astrid&Valka
Word Count: 1995
Warnings:
canon character death
Summary:
Astrid learns to dance
Why I Rec This Fic:
I love Stoick&Astrid together, and this is soft and a bit sad but in spirit in love with live and love.

"We go one-two-three, one-two-three, one-two-three – just like that, see? Isn’t that nice? You know, I don’t like to dance often, but your grandpa taught me this one, and I danced it with your dad at our wedding. It’d be so unfair if you missed out, huh?"
