Why I Rec This Fic: I love the quote from Prattchet about stories being parasites and I have angsty feelings about this kids having to rule a kingdom; I also love the motive/image of blood nurturing soil and flowers blooding out of the blood of saints – this is just right up my alley of magic angst. The world is alive and it has its own agenda of survival that is not bothered by literal children and their wellbeing.

Why I Rec This Fic: Sometimes there is a character that only appears for a few sentences but that stays with you, the Sea Girl that Lucy sees in Voyage of the Dawn Treader is one of them, so I love that there is fanworks for her. It’s great to see it from her point of view, without over explaining there is a lot of worldbuilding here.

She laughs with her mouth against Amarantha’s hair, laughs a laughter full of sticky sugar and iron and a lion’s roar, and when the little things look at her with their glass eyes, she looks right back, her laughter like the spring sun on her face, her cheeks still salt stained. And Amarantha, half a sapling, still, with the memory of winter hidden deep under her bark and in her winds, stands and watches as Lucy rips her skin open on little thorned hands – laughing, still.

Why I Rec This Fic: Interesting worldbuilding. The description of the sensory issues is done well and incredible relatable (see why I recommend grim grinning ghosts by lyricalecho (Yu Gi Oh! DM) though that is mainly based around trauma) the idea of support for different need is just a wonderful escapist fantasy for me, related to that it is also respectful in the way Lucy feels her age (some fiction has difficulty to balance the „precious“ innocence and what a kid would actually understand.
