Why I Rec This Fic: The tone of the fic fit canon and the handling of gender identiy/roles also fit what canon could be. 

The court philosopher pointed out that, with five sisters, Cimorene was doubtless confused by the differing roles, and recommended more father-son bonding time. As a consequence, Cimorene spent every Sunday from noon to dinnertime riding around the countryside with the King, surveying the land and training the royal falcons. Since this was a good deal more interesting than the history lessons which had previously been relegated to Sunday afternoons — her tutor tended towards sudden and mysterious deafness if she tried to persuade him to tell her stories about princesses and brave ladies-in-waiting in addition to tales of the kings and knights — Cimorene didn’t complain.

Why I Rec This Fic: Really really captures the tone of the source, and I like how female centric it is which is not much surprise given canon but it’s still Nice, it’s a funny and sweet little gen adventure. 

“A princess turned into a frog! I’ve never heard of that before,” Alianora said.
Ribbita hung her head. “That’s what everyone says. I’ve been trying to get turned back into a human for ages, but no one wants to give me true love’s kiss. I’ve even tried asking a magician to turn me back. He said it wasn’t proper for a princess to be turned into a frog. But I’m a princess, and I was. I think my parents were trying to break the taboo, naming me Ribbita and arranging for me to be cursed and all, but being a frog really isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.”
“I didn’t know it was cracked up to be anything,” Cimorene said. “I understand why you’d like to be turned back. And I think I know someone who could help you out.”

Why I Rec This Fic: They do deserve a day off, and I like to think seeing multiple happy different relationship (and gender role) models would be good for Cimorene.
