Hellboy fic rec
Nov. 11th, 2018 08:10 pmTitle: getting out of here alive by words-writ-in-starlight (Gunmetal_Crown)
Fandom: Hellboy, Constantine (2005)
Character/Pairing: John Constantine, Hellboy
John Constantine & Hellboy, Hellboy & Trevor Bruttenholm
Summary: "John goes to find an old friend, after he gets word of a small disaster in Moscow that almost ended the world."
Word Count: 3060
Warnings: Christan Religious Imagery & Symbolism, canon character death, guilt
Why I Rec This Fic: This is one of the fics that just made me cry, the first time around so much that I couldnt even write a comment (and the second time around too) – because my favorite relationship in Hellboy canon is the one between Hellboy and his father, Hellboys feeling about it all, really hit, and felt true to the source material. Hellboys humor is also nailed here. No knowledge of Constantine needed (said as I know nothing about it, and the author made me like the character and the relationship he has with Hellboy anyway).

“Lung cancer,” Hellboy said to the rosary in his fist. “All that shit he survived, Nazis and monsters and—goddamn, me, and he was gonna die from lung cancer. He never even smoked.”
“Fuck,” John said with feeling. “I’m—fuck me, Red. I’m so sorry.”
