Why I Rec This Fic: One of the shows big weakness is how much it suscribes to bullshit ideas/norms about gender/sexuality/relationships etc, while this fic is not a fiery attack on that but it is a sweet little bit about how happy endings can mean something different for people, and that is nice too.

 

Robin, somehow, is still around. She’s still the roommate, still reminds Ted to pick up milk on his way home from work and he asks her to balance their checkbook because he never knows what they spend money on.

(It becomes ‘they’ without them noticing, especially not Robin.)

Why I Rec This Fic: The shows treatment of Robin made me really angry and sad at times, I wanted her to find her way and the show seemed so determinded to break her down to fit gender sterotypes (note I havent seen the show in years and not all of it, or all of what i saw chronological so this is my personal impression and may not be what you remember/know) – so this fic is a nice contrast to that. Its funny and sweet too.

Barney: aren't you supposed to be at that fancy new job now, anyway?
Robin has one panicky leg in a pair of trousers, her toothbrush hanging out of her mouth as she hops, before she realizes that it's Saturday morning.
"You're the worst," she tells Barney, with no preamble, when he picks up his phone. He does the evil laugh that he's been practicing for his latest hook-up persona (a supervillain who owns his own island), and she hangs up on him.

Looking at Robin, Marshall's suddenly not very interested in the toast Ted made him promise he'd eat. But, it's not like he can just stand up in his boxers right now and not have both of them know he's kind of hard. He's trying not to blush, and not be a pervert like Barney, and starts working on ripping his crusts off as a distraction. She's left to go get ready for work before he's even made it up to Boise in listing the state capitals. Looking down, there's two mutilated pieces of bread on the dish in front of him and his hands are shiny with the grape jelly Ted had also insisted on because it's kind of a fruit.

Hero had always wanted to have a family. Round-faced children and a faceless but beloved spouse. Beatrice? Not so much. She was satisfied with the idea of a house next to Hero’s. Their parents laughed.
“Maybe that’s why it hurts so much,” Hero murmurs. “It’s not--not just what he did but the future that was lost with him.”

Why I Rec This Fic: I am so very happy to see that someone else needed catharsis about Hero marrying Claudio. The fic really captures the feeling of the play and gives such sweet gentle support not only from Beatrice for Hero but also from Benedickt. It also maybe the first time I believe in Beatrice and Benedickts love, they are beautifuly adult-y long time commited with children in love and I could get used to more of that in media.

Why I Rec This Fic: I love this ship, and I think it deserves more love. I love the way the relationships is written, there is a lot of pining and attempts at noble sacrificing for love. But I also love the way the strengths/vices and flaws of the characters are written- Beatrice is sharp witted as always but she is also good at diplomacy and practical, and Don Pedro is a good man but more important he is ready to become a better one.
