She side-eyed every bookseller. If Hideko thought to read, Sook-hee would try to distract her. And Sook-hee could be very distracting.

Why I Rec This Fic: It took „so slip your hand inside of my glove“ for me to find a way to understand and like Hideko, but I like to deepen it and see what other fans do with her.

Why I Rec This Fic: Really beautiful words for healing, with the ups and downs. Made me find a way to understand and love Hideko.

There are moments when her breath starts coming fast, her ribs hitching and aching like her corset’s been pulled too tight, and after Sook-hee drags her back to their hotel, she doesn’t leave the room for a week to recover. It’s the smells, mostly, so many she can’t name, and the noise, and the sheer human heat of bodies packed in tight. Sometimes it’s just too much. In every city, the smells and sights are different, but the sound of traffic beneath her window is the same, and she would give much for the cool silence of Uncle’s house, the comfort of knowing there are whole empty rooms between her and the nearest person who isn’t Sook-hee.

Why I Rec This Fic: Found family feels! Female characters being awesome! No Henry Higgins/Eliza Dolittle romance (this was why i clicked at it and i got what i wanted)

Eliza is directing Freddy in clearing the dishes, which will no doubt only create more work for poor Mrs. Pearce, but no matter - Eliza has never quite gotten used to having servants, and it gives her pleasure to order her husband about. Mrs. Higgins and Pickering are at the piano, where he is attempting to recreate some melody from his youth in his rather weak singing voice, much to her amusement. Henry, of course, is hunched over some charts of American dialects or some such, utterly ignoring their fun.

Why I Rec This Fic: More Leelo perspective!

She never thought of it as a punishment until the humans named it that in their stories. She thought of if as a sacrifice. A pain not separate from life, not an artificially imposed judgement, but a part of life itself. Yes, to birth life, a single life or all life, hurts: because you are tearing out part of yourself and giving it autonomy.
And it's worth it, isn't it? It's a worthy sacrifice, isn't it?
